Job Description – Community Mental Health Worker (CMHW)
Title: Community Mental Health Worker (CMHW)
Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly), Non-Supervisory
Work-Setting: Combination of in-person (office) and field/community work
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Community Outreach & Education
- The CMHW will assist with, and sometimes take the lead on, planning/executing small- and large-scale community events focused on mental health education.
- The CMHW will actively search for and capitalize on opportunities to reach underserved populations within Orange County with regards to mental health education
- The CMHW will provide referrals where appropriate to community members via OC Navigator in order to promote mental health well-being and prevent the worsening of mental, emotional, and behavioral health issues.
- Online Engagement
- The CMHW will assist with the development of digital campaigns (such as social media, email, etc.) promoting mental health education in the community.
- The CMHW will continually identify new and existing online avenues to target unserved and underserved populations within Orange County
- Support Material Development
- The CMHW will assist with the development of paper and digital materials that can be used to support/enhance mental health education, stigma reduction, and resource connection efforts.
- Peer Support Services
- The CMHW will assist with the recruitment and training of peer support volunteers that have lived experiences with mental illness.
- The CMHW will assist with supervising peer support volunteers by providing continued training, regular meetings/debriefings, and assistance with resource navigation.
- Community Partnerships
- The CMHW will actively search for and identify potential community partners that can assist AASCSC with reaching unserved and underserved populations within Orange County
- The CMHW will assist with establishing and maintaining a collaborative relationship with new and existing community partners.
- Documentation
- The CMHW will be responsible for documenting all services provided in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Culturally & Linguistically Inclusive
- In regard to all of the job duties and responsibilities listed above, the CMHW will ensure that all efforts are done in a culturally and linguistically inclusive fashion so as to reach unserved and underserved populations within Orange County
Skills & Qualifications:
The ideal CMHW candidate will have:
- A high school diploma and at least three (3) years of experience in a community mental health setting OR a bachelor’s degree and at least one (1) year of experience in a community mental health setting
- Bilingual or multilingual (preferred languages are Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, or Tagalog)
- Strong written and communication skills, presentation skills, and organizational abilities
- Competent in basic technology including calling/texting, email, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and video conferencing software (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.)
- Has lived, educational, and/or professional experiences with mental health disorders / mental illnesses.
- Has a valid driver’s license and is comfortable driving a personal vehicle in order to complete community/field duties (mileage will be reimbursed)
- Familiarity with mental/behavioral health resources within Orange County including OC Navigator as well as other community resources.
- Must pass criminal background check.
Compensation / Benefit:
- $23 to $25 an hour

Internship Program: AASCSC’s unpaid internship program is designed for college students (or recent graduates) that have an interest in gaining professional development, general office skills, as well as experience with non-profits, community health, health equity, advocacy, and working with a wide range of age groups in a community service setting. Interns may be asked to assist with:

Sponsorships, grants, and fundraising

Coordinating with partner organizations/agencies

Planning events and other AASCSC activities

Participating in events and other AASCSC activities (may be off-site)

Assisting community members and those utilizing AASCSC’s services

General office duties and other tasks as assigned by the volunteer’s supervisor
Interns are expected to commit to at least 10 hours per week,
